A recent incident at a Department Store on First Street in Orangeville has drawn attention to the risks of pickpocketing.
A local family member reported losing a significant amount of money after being targeted while waiting in line.
The anonymous post on a local Facebook page describes an unsettling experience.
The victim says they noticed a couple lingering nearby without shopping items, which raised suspicion.
The couple’s behavior, combined with their lack of visible purchases, contributed to an uneasy feeling that ultimately preceded the theft.
Here are a few tips to help deter pickpockets:
- Keep Valuables Secure: Use a money belt or hidden pouch to store cash and important items. Avoid carrying large amounts of money in easily accessible pockets or bags.
- Stay Aware of Your Surroundings: Pay attention to people around you, especially in crowded areas. Be cautious of anyone who seems overly interested in you or your belongings.
- Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on your personal items and avoid distractions, such as using your phone or engaging with strangers, that might divert your attention away from potential threats.
