What’s your go-to for potlucks?
I have a potluck birthday party this weekend, and it seems like people are bringing some form of salad:
- potato
- pasta
- egg
- actual salad
Anything I can bring that isn’t in salad form? I’m thinking tortellini, but that also feels strangely salad adjacent…
Let me know!

What else did we talk about this morning?
ICYMI – Laurier announces open house ahead of first fall semester in Milton
We’re about to have a university in Milton. With Conestoga College opening its first campus already, Wilfrid Laurier University is rushing to get their foot in the Milton door. They’ll have a small campus available in town this fall, and to kick things off, they’re holding an open house for prospective students later this month. It’s available on Saturday, May 25th at the campus on Industrial Drive. Eventually, the goal is for both Conestoga and Laurier to have campuses on Tremaine Road as part of the Milton Education Village. There’s no real opening date for that campus at the moment.
Daily WTF – Someone punched Steve Buscemi in the face
New York City is becoming a lawless wasteland where celebrities go to get walloped in the mouth. During the pandemic, Rick Moranis was sucker punched by a stranger on the street. In March, actor Michael Stuhbarg was randomly punched in the back of the neck. Now, this week, someone gave Steve Buscemi a right hook outta nowhere. Buscemi is reportedly recovering after suffering a swollen left eye. The attacker is still wanted by police for the assault. Reminder, Steve Buscemi is a literal hero who worked as a firefighter before becoming an actor. On 9/11, he raced back to a firehall and went to work to try and save people. Someone punched THAT man in the face IN NEW YORK CITY… Yeesh.
Daily Did You Know – A Milton teacher won big on The Price is Right
Congrats to Ryan Sideris, a Milton high school teacher who won roughly $50,000 worth of prizes on The Price is Right. He went down over March Break with his mom to see California, and the pair decided to get tickets to see the show live. Sideris was interviewed by the crew on the show, and managed to get himself on the show. That episode has finally aired, and so Sideris can talk all about his big win!
McDonald’s is launching the Grimace Shake across Canada
Get ready to celebrate Grimace’s birthday in Canada! McDonalds debuted a purple milkshake last year for the big guy’s birthday, and the thing went viral on social media. A handful of Canadian locations sold the menu item, but this year, the purple shake will be available across the country. Reports say the milkshake will be in store as of TODAY, so if you’re feeling adventurous, head to McDonalds and get that berry flavoured shake.
83-year-old woman becomes Howard University’s oldest graduate
It’s never too late to go back to school, and that’s definitely true for Marie Fowler. The 83-year-old officially walked the stage recently to get her doctoral degree from Howard University. She had been out of school since 1959, but decided to give it a shot. Turns out, you can teach an old dog new tricks, much to the surprise of Fowler. She couldn’t believe how much she was able to retain at her age. So, if you’re thinking about going back to school but you’re nervous about your age, here’s proof: that shouldn’t stop you!
GOOD NEWS – Flavor Flav pledges support for U.S. women’s water polo team
When you’re an athlete, you need all kinds of support to get you in the right mindset. For the United States Olympic women’s Water Polo team, they’ll have Public Enemy rapper Flava Flav in their corner, CHYEEEEEEA BOOOOOOYin’ all over the place. He says that, as a girl dad, he’s more than happy to financially sponsor the entire team and he’ll be cheering them in Paris this July, helping make dreams become a reality… And that’s some good news!
Man gets realistic picture of his boat painted on a fence intended to hide it
Let me introduce you to the pettiest man alive! Etienne Constable from California was told that he had to hide his boat that he’d kept on his driveway. Local government officials required him to build a fence to keep the boat out of sight, and sold Constable did as they said. However, they said nothing about the paint on the fence. So, Constable commissioned a lifelike painting of his boat on this new fence. This means that while the boat itself is put away and out of sight, the painting will exist at the end of his driveway, right in the face of every single neighbour who complained about him. Congratulations Etienne Constable, you are OFFICIALLY the pettiest man alive, and I am here for it!
Canadians are cancelling their Netflix subscriptions… Here’s why
If you are a subscriber to Netflix, you might be a little annoyed with the streaming company. They recently announced the removal of the cheapest non-ads subscription tier, meaning users had to choose between having the ads or paying almost double for the next tier. This has led to a lot of people vowing to cancel their subscriptions. If you’re now paying more money for Netflix, how do you feel? Are you taking it on the chin, or are you looking for change? Let me know!
How long do people ignore the “check engine” light?
Picture this: you’re driving along on a Monday morning and your goal is to get to work. You look down at your dash, and there’s that little yellow glow: the check engine light. How long do you wait before you get that look after? According to a study, 1/3 of people will wait as long as possible. Adding on to that, 39% will wait for the car to physically break down before they get their engine checked. These same people also regretted doing this, as it ended up with a big payment needed to fix the car, as well as added stress to their day, and even roadside assistance. If your dash suddenly has that little yellow symbol pop up, how long do you wait before you actually get the engine checked? Is it right away – or do you wait a little bit? Let me know!
