It was a weekend of unexpected events.
On Friday, December 1st, the Milton Menace went into Burlington to take on the Cougars at the Central Arena. The last time the two teams had played, the Menace had won 4-3.
Things started to look like a repeat, with Menace Captain Connor Driscoll opening the scoring at the four-minute mark in the first period. His 12th of the season was assisted by Marcus Tryfon. Before the end of the opening frame, the Cougars would tie the game.
Burlington would keep that momentum going in the second period, jumping out to a 3-1 lead early on. It was Justin O’Donnell to the rescue, scoring his own 12th of the season, assisted by Graeme Macauley and Driscoll. It was 3-2 Cougars after two periods.
Those were the real highlights for the Menace, as Burlington would pack on the goals in the third period, winning the game 5-2.
In net for Milton was Glen Crandall. He had a busy night, stopping 32 of 36 shots, with the fifth goal being an empty netter. He finished with an .888% save percentage.
The Milton Menace then came home on Sunday, December 3rd for one of their toughest matchups of the OJHL season.
They were host to the first place Collingwood Blues, ranked 3rd in all of Canada. The Menace didn’t back down from the task in front of them, as they jumped out to an early lead. In powerplay action just four minutes in, Aidan Puley scored his 11th of the season, assisted Connor Driscoll and Graeme Macauley. Five minutes later, also on the powerplay, Alessandro Petreccia buried his seventh of the year. It was assisted by Gavin Sheehan and Alexander Siletsky. Milton was leading the Blues 2-0 after 20-minutes of action.
The Blues scored the lone goal of the second frame, and then tied things up in the third period, which took the game to overtime.
It wasn’t until double overtime, however, when Driscoll led the team to a big win. His 13th of the season was assisted by Tristan Tremble and Owen Kindree, and that was all. The Menace beat the Blues, 3-2, in 2OT.
Glen Crandall was once again the netminder for the Menace. The Blues put him to work, doubling the Menace in shots. Crandall answered the call, though. He stopped 62 of 64 shots, sealing the win with a .968% save percentage.
The Menace will return to the ice with a game on Thursday, December 7th against the Caledon Admirals. Puck-drop at the Mayfield Recreation Complex is set for 7:30 p.m.
Their next home game is scheduled for Sunday, December 10th. It’s the Milton Menace versus the Oakville Blades. Game-time at the Milton Memorial Arena is slated for 6:30 p.m. Menace home tickets for this OJHL season can be found here.
