Ahead of the One Book, One Milton event planned for this fall, the Milton Public Library (MPL) has announced their host!
Joining author Sarah Polley will be Eleanor Wachtel! She has earned a reputation as one of the world’s best literary interviewers during her more than 30 years as host of Writers & Company on CBC Radio. Five books of her interviews have been published, including Random Illuminations, a collection of reflections, correspondence and conversations with Carol Shields which won the Independent Publisher Book Award; Original Minds; and most recently, The Best of Writers & Company.
Wachtel also co-founded and hosted CBC’s Wachtel on the Arts, featuring conversations with filmmakers, composers, architects, artists, etc., as well as the Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF) popular Books on Film series for more than a decade. She has received numerous accolades for her contributions to Canadian cultural life, including: nine honorary degrees and Officer of the Order of Canada. She was recently named chair of the jury for the International Booker Prize 2024.
One Book, One Milton is officially sold out, with the MPL saying the community is eager to see Polley take the stage to discuss her #1 National Bestseller, Run Towards the Danger, this October. It’s a collection of six essays capturing pieces of Sarah’s life as she remembers it, exploring memory and the dialogue between her past and present. The book is the winner of the 2022 Toronto Book Awards, a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice and was named a most-anticipated book of 2022 by Entertainment Weekly, Lit Hub and AV Club. Although the event is sold out, pairs of tickets are available to win through MPL’s Run Towards the Danger contest until the end of August and Trivia Tuesdays on their Facebook page until October 10th.
Since August of this year, Milton Public Library has found unique and creative ways to bring the community together through a shared reading experience. Run Towards the Danger was used as the basis for all One Book, One Milton events and the full list of upcoming programs can be found here.
The 2023 One Book, One Milton event will be on Thursday, October 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the FirstOntario Arts Centre Milton.
