Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 today (September 8th), after 70 years on the throne.
She was Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign and the longest reign of a British monarch.
The Royal Family released a statement on Twitter stating that “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Her 73-year-old son Prince Charles, now automatically becomes King.
