Dufferin County is marking Earth Month with the release of the first annual Climate Action Report Card!
The report provides a progress update on the implementation of the Dufferin Climate Action Plan that was adopted on March 11th last year.
The Action Plan is the County’s first comprehensive strategy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions and build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
“The climate challenge calls for a transformation in the way we move throughout the County, heat and power our buildings, plan our communities, and care for and relate to our environment,” says Sara Wicks, Manager of Climate and Energy.
“Every action we take helps foster a healthier and more equitable community for current and future generations in Dufferin.”
The Climate Action Report Card identifies the status of each action and highlights the key initiatives undertaken throughout 2021 including:
- Installation of the Charge Up in Dufferin network of 24 public electric vehicle charging stations
- Completion of feasibility study for a community deep energy retrofit financing program
- Activation of the Experimental Acres Farm pilot in partnership with Wellington County
- 3,200 tonnes of organics composted through Dufferin Waste’s Green Bin program
- Launch of the Climate Hub and Climate Stories of Dufferin project
Key climate priorities for 2022 include the creation of a climate adaptation plan, development of a youth volunteer program, investigation of options for green development standards, and providing community engagement opportunities related to flood protection, active transportation, electric vehicles, and home energy efficiency.
