The Ontario government is adding 68 new beds and upgrading 60 beds at the Shelburne Long-Term Care Home owned by Southbridge Care Homes.
This is part of the government’s $6.4 billion commitment to build more than 30,000 net new beds by 2028 and 28,000 upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
“Our government has a plan to fix long-term care and a key part of that plan is building modern, safe, and comfortable homes for our seniors,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care.
“When the construction at this home is complete, it will be a place for local seniors to call home, near their family and friends.”
There are now 283 new and 197 upgraded long-term care beds in development, under construction or completed in Dufferin County, including the following projects:
– 23 new and 137 upgraded beds at Avalon Care Centre
– 68 new and 60 upgrading beds at Southbridge Shelburne
– 192 new beds at Headwaters LTC Residence
The governments plan to fix long-term care and to ensure Ontario’s seniors get the quality of care and quality of life they need is built on three pillars: staffing and care; accountability, enforcement, and transparency; and building modern, safe, comfortable homes for seniors.
“The number of residents in Dufferin-Caledon who will need long-term care is increasing over the next decade,” said Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones. “Today’s announcement will help ensure that we have safe and comfortable LTC beds, close to home, for those who need it.”
“The Town of Shelburne is very pleased that the province is investing in our community by increasing the number of beds at Shelburne Long-Term Care Home,” said Mayor Wade Mills and Dufferin County Warden.
“The investment today is welcomed news and we look forward to working with Southbridge to see this project completed.”
“We are enhancing and prioritizing long term care in Ontario, and we thank the Ministry for advancing our project in Shelburne. We are excited for residents to move into our new home and experience our modern, safe and community-minded approach to living,” said Ryan Bell, CEO, Southbridge Care Homes.
