Milton is home to one of the best teams in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL).
Coming into the weekend, the Menace had won nine of their last ten. That’s the kind of stretch that can change a season. Fortunately, the Menace were doing well prior to this hot stretch, and that combined consistency has placed them near the top of the OJHL standings.
The Menace went into the weekend with a game against the Brantford 99ers on Friday night at the Milton Memorial Arena. The game started early with Andrew Horsley (assisted by Ryan Holmes and Holden Rogers) scoring two minutes into the first. That was followed up by Lucas Buzziol (Holmes and Aidan Hughes). The 99ers got one back in the final minute of the first. It was 2-1 Menace after 20.
The second period was where the game got out of hand, in favour of Milton. Speed round here:
- James Barbour (power play) (Ryan Holmes, Andrew Horsley) 8:44
- Lucas Buzziol (Owen Forester, James Barbour) 9:44
- Ethan Sims (Aidan Hughes, Andrew Horsley) 11:31
- Ethan Sims (power play) (Ryan O Donnell, Owen Forester) 17:09
It was 6-1 for the Menace heading into the third. Captain Jordan Stock (Ryan O’Donnell and Forester) scored in the third to make it 7-1, which became the final score.
Carter Tahk stopped 22 of 23 shots to get the win.
The Menace had a slightly tougher matchup on Saturday. They took on the Collingwood Blues in Collingwood. The first period of this second game in two days was scoreless. Owen Forester (Andrew Horsley) scored the go-ahead goal in the second period. Ethan Sims (Jordan Stock) then notched the win with an empty netter in the final minute of the game.
Tahk played again. He stopped 25 shots to get another shutout.
Milton enters Monday with a 30-10-0-4 record over 44 games, giving them 64 points. They’ve won 11 of their last 12, and seven in a row. They remain second in the West Division, but are tied with the North York Rangers for fourth place across the OJHL, with two games in hand.
The Menace next play the Pickering Panthers on Tuesday afternoon. Gametime is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Pickering Recreation Complex.
