Schools across Ontario are required to monitor and report student and staff absences to the Ministry of Education, as well as any potential school closures.
The Ministry of Education also requires schools to report when student absence rates rise to a level of 30% or more to their local Public Health Unit.
If the level of absences reaches 30% or more, a letter will be sent home to families at that school.
As of today, two schools in Ontario are closed.
In the Halton Region, three schools are reporting an absence rate above 13%, including one school in Milton.
