On Tuesday afternoon, Dufferin County kicked off the celebration of Black History Month with the raising of the Pan-African Flag at the Museum of Dufferin.
FM101 Orangeville spoke with Alethia O’Hara-Stephenson of the Dufferin County Canadian Black Association about the importance of the flag raising in Dufferin County and the impact of celebrating Black History Month has in our community.
Dufferin County Warden and Shelburne Mayor Wade Mills, added by speaking about the Black History in Dufferin County exhibit at the Museum of Dufferin.
On Sunday February 27th, The Museum of Dufferin along with community leader Alethia O’Hara-Stephenson (DCCBA), will host a live YouTube event to celebrate our Black Heroes Past, Present & Future for Black History Month.
Panelists include Grammy award winning artist and author Dan Hill, Canadian Hip Hop Artist and author Maestro Fresh Wes, Shelburne Deputy Mayor Steve Anderson, and community leader and Soulyve Incorporated’s Phil Dewar.
Danielle Bryan, Ashanti Brooks and Tyra Harris from the Black Chapter Youth group from Center District High School who will speak on the future, will also be in attendance.
Discussions will be had regarding the Dufferin community coming together to celebrate our Black Heroes of the past, with a look at the stories of Black History featured in the Museum of Dufferin’s Main Exhibit, Through the Looking Glass.
