Nine years after a proposal for a Mega Quarry was turned down, Melancthon Township has concerns about another proposed expansion.
Strada Aggregates has announced it would like to expand its existing pit near Shelburne, in order to extract 2 million tonnes of stone each year.
The NDACT (North Dufferin Agricultural and Community Task Force) fears the drinking water for up to one million people could be compromised.
It could also effect nearby farmers who grow food each year.
FM101 spoke with Community Engagement Liaison Carl Cosack, about how the expansion to the Shelburne pit could place both residents and local farmers at risk, as well as what can the community expect to be covered at the public meeting on January 15th.
The public meeting will be hosted by NDACT on January 15th.
The group will also share its proposal for the water services in the community.
