The Special Investigations Unit is investigating a weekend shooting in Orangeville.
Just before midnight on Friday, Dufferin OPP responded to a reported shooting on Wellington Street, where police found a male victim with a gunshot wound.
He was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Police soon found out that the suspect had barricaded himself with two other individuals inside a residence.
After a lengthy negotiation, police secured the two unharmed individuals and the suspect was found dead inside the home.
An SIU report confirms the 54-year-old suspect died from a gunshot wound and while at this time, it doesn’t appear police shot any firearms, three SIU investigators and two forensic scientists are investigating.
The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
The Ontario watchdog agency encourages witnesses to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
