Another purse-snatching incident happened at the Orangeville Walmart, however this one ended up in a carjacking.
On Monday afternoon (Oct. 26), Dufferin OPP says a man followed the victim into the store and waited for an opportunity to grab her purse.
The suspect was able to get a hold of car keys and then stole the car right out of the retailer parking lot.
Dufferin OPP believes this incident could be connected to a wallet theft at Walmart on October 17th.
In a social media post, Orangeville councillor Lisa Post identified the victim as her mother-in-law.
“While in Walmart, her purse was snatched from her cart and she chased him and grabbed the purse back and it fell to the ground and her contents scattered. She picked it all up quickly and he ran away. When she went to report it at Customer service, she realized her keys were gone. Someone went to go check to make sure that her keys hadn’t slid under a shelf while she went to go make sure that her car was in the parking lot and realized that it was gone.”
Dufferin OPP describes the suspect as male, short and stocky in stature, with a darker complexion.
While the stolen vehicle is a 2014 white Ford escape with Licence plate #BZBY 378.

In light of these occurrences, police warn shoppers in the area to keep their valuables on hand and never leave them in shopping carts.
They also urge shoppers to report suspicious behaviour to employees and contact them someone matching the suspect description is observed by the store.
