This afternoon, Ontario premier Doug Ford announced the majority of the province can progress into stage 2 of the re-opening process.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph falls into that category.
Effective Friday at 12:01 am, the province will increase social gatherings to 10 people from 5.
Also, places of worship will be able to re-open with social distancing precautions in place, attendance will be limited to 30% of the capacity of the building.
Restaurant and bar patios will be allowed to re-open.
Select personal care services with proper safety measures may open including hair salons, barbershops, beauty salons, and tattoo parlours.
Outdoor splash pads and swimming pools, beaches, and camping grounds.
Weddings and funerals will be restricted to 10 people.
Ford also said the government will release more information regarding child care and summer day camps soon.
As the region’s economy reopens, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health says it will work with government and local health partners to ensure public safety is the primary decision-making criteria.
Medical officer of health, Dr. Nicola Mercer believes reopening the economy is a positive move and adds “Cautiously reopening more amenities and businesses means positive economic and physical health benefits for our citizens; both factors in good health.”
