The province has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Avalon Care Centre but Public Health has not.
Criteria to declare an outbreak by the province is one COVID-19 case in either residents or staff within a facility, while Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health defines an outbreak as one or more confirmed cases of COVID-19 within a facility (long-term care home, retirement home or hospital).
Spokesperson for Avalon, Stephanie Barber confirms one Avalon Care Centre staffer tested positive for COVID-19, but immediately went into self-isolation, was eventually cleared of the virus and is now back at work.
However Public Health says there’s a general respiratory outbreak at Avalon, and Barber confirms there has not been any further coronavirus cases linked to the facility.
