The COVID-19 death toll has increased at both of Dufferin’s long term care homes.
Dufferin County reports an additional resident death at Dufferin Oaks Long Term Care Home, bringing the death toll to 2.
Altogether, 4 residents have been diagnosed with the virus and so have 6 staffers.
Over at Shelburne Residence, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health reports a total of 8 deaths since yesterday.
In all, 34 residents have the virus, while 18 staff members have been diagnosed as well.
In the general Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph region, Dufferin County has surpassed the more populated Guelph at 111 and 106 cases, respectively.
Speaking to the discrepancy, public health spokesperson, Danny Williamson attributes it to a higher number of tests completed earlier on at Dufferin at Headwaters Health Care Centre’s drive through assessment center.
“For comparison, Guelph has assessed 2,628 and tested 2,017. Whereas Orangeville has done 3,493 assessments and 2,056 tests. Down the road, once further study is conducted on the pandemic, it is possible that there are differences between Guelph and Dufferin County that account for differences in results, but that would be speculative at this point.”
There are a total of 270 cases in the region.
