After both Shelburne and Orangeville have declared a state of emergency, where does that leave Dufferin County?
The County has now engaged its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which will free up county staff from non-essential tasks to more of a facilitatory role in order to protect residents vulnerable to COVID-19.
County warden Darren White also mentions extreme measures public health can take, including a hefty fine for those returning from abroad and refusing to self-isolate.
White says Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health would follow up on these violations and get police to levy fines.
When asked how public health can track these violations, White answered it’s fairly easy through social media and concerned citizens.
But that’s not an invitation to snitch on your neighbour for taking out the trash White jokes, he says public health will be on the look out for individuals who recently returned to Canada and are going to work or grocery stores.
