Stephen Lecce, Minister of Education, says school boards will make local decisions about whether to proceed with the EQAO Grade 9 math assessment this month.
Testing across the province is scheduled to start Monday (Jan. 13). But Lecce says because of the withdrawal of services by Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF), some secondary students will not be prepared for assessment.
“OSSTF said their job action would not impact students, but this is a clear example of union disruption affecting Ontario students,” adds Lecce.
Heather Loney, communications and community engagement officer with the Upper Grand District School Board, says the board is currently “working through this” and will have an update soon.
The Peel District School Board has announced that it has postponed the EQAO grade 9 math assessment.
