The consultant hired by Orangeville to do a cost analysis of OPP and Orangeville Police Service (OPS) has found significant savings should council choose to switch forces.
However, there will be short term pain if the plan is to disband OPS.
According to the report, the town would incur a more than $7.2-million loss in 2020, but would realize savings of $1.6-million in 2021 compared to the expected OPS budget (based on comparison of OPS proposed budget and OPP proposal).
Pomax Consulting did a long term outlook for Orangeville as per municipal staff request.
The consultant’s report shows Orangeville would recover the transitional costs by 2024 and see an overall savings of about $1.89-million.
The report states that those savings are expected to accumulate to about $58-million by 2036.
The consultant also found that the service level would remain the same under OPP.
Council will discuss the report at its Monday (Nov. 4) meeting.
