Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease that eventually paralyzes the body until the patient is no longer capable of eating, walking and ultimately breathing.
It can come on suddenly and leave families in a bind, that’s why Shelburne councillor Kyle Fegan, and his wife Marcia, are organizing the Extreme ALS Ice Dunk Challenge on Saturday (Oct. 19).
Marcia says half of the proceeds will go to retrofitting her mother’s home with accessible tools, who was recently diagnosed with the aggressive disease.
Some members of Shelburne council and the police force will be dunked, and there will be live music, a BBQ and a silent auction.
It’s happening today from 1 to 4 pm at the TrainerGames Fitness Centre in Shelburne.
